Most people don’t believe this, but I’m actually an incredibly shy and introverted entrepreneur.
I don’t naturally like to talk to people – I find it very draining. However, over my nine years of owning my own business, I’ve found ways to keep my energy up, hone my personal skills, and come across as high-energy and very engaging in videos and livestreams.
So people are always super surprised when I tell them I’m introverted. It just doesn’t seem possible. And as an entrepreneur, those of us that are introverted know that it comes with pain points.
It’s a little harder in some aspects to be an introverted entrepreneur than it is to be an extroverted entrepreneur.
Things like talking and networking with new customers on sales calls, running large group coaching sessions, finding new clients, and growing an audience, and being on camera, can be a little harder for introverts.
And so what I want to do today is to talk a little bit about my journey to 7-figures as an introverted entrepreneur.
One of the very best things I did in my journey to becoming a 7-figure earner is I stopped taking sales calls.
As an introvert, I found sales calls to be super draining. There are no shows which can drain your energy, there’s a lot of pressure and nervousness to be perfect live and not mess up while you’re talking to them, and you’re tied to an office all day long and can’t go anywhere.
And frankly, talking to that many people was super draining to me as an introvert. So no matter how many sales calls I took, I was always nervous and dreaded them each time.
And I actually, at one point, found myself becoming very resentful of my business because of all the sales calls I was doing. It was very frustrating, draining, and tiring, and it felt like there had to be a better way.
So sales calls just became a non-negotiable for me in my business. And I made myself a promise that I would never do another sales call again.
And ever since I’ve made that promise, here’s what’s happened in my business. I close clients anywhere from $1500 – $72,000 in my DMs without needing to do a single sales call.
A lot of people think you can’t ditch sales calls if you’re closing high-ticket clients. But I’m just going to bust that myth for you right here right now. I close high-ticket in the DMs all the time.
Not only that, but it’s very easy to get people to say yes. Because I don’t have all this pressure to perform perfectly on the call live, I can really think about what I want to say and what that person is saying to me. And I can have a lot more time and dive even deeper with that one particular prospect because I can take my time and think about the best response to close the sale.
All that pressure to perform and “say the right things” is removed when you’re closing the sale in your inbox instead of over the phone.
So from introverted entrepreneur to another, I wanted to share with you my top 3 tips for going from draining sales calls to closing tons of high-ticket clients in your DMs.
Step 1. You’re going to need to commit to the process.
Sometimes it feels almost unbelievable that you really can sign on high-ticket clients without needing clients without sales calls.
And it is a process, right? It is something that you will have to work through; it doesn’t just happen overnight. Just like you had to learn how to sell over the phone, there are specific things you will need to learn when you transition to selling over the DMs, but I promise you it’s worth it.
You need to really roll out your process and commit to it. It all started for me when I made that promise to myself that I was going to figure this out, and I was GOING to sign on clients without ever having to take another sales call again.
It took my commitment to the process to work through all the little kinks at the start, but that’s what carried me through to where I am now.
Step 2: You need a really good process in place for follow-up.
I’m sure you’ve heard this phrase before: “the fortune is in the follow-up”, and this is especially true with selling over chat.
You’re going to really need to create and fine-tune your process for following up. It can be as simple as a little spreadsheet, but you really want to be intentional with how you’re following up and ensure that you are creating consistently because that is how you’re going to close most of your sales.
Step 3: You’re going to need to learn how to read body language and tonality over your DMs.
A big part of sales is intuitively understanding what the customer needs, what they want, and all their pain points. You’re going to learn how to read between the lines and really understand what people are actually saying when they’re talking to you.
So you’re going to need to be able to learn how to read all that over chat. I have a kit that I created outlining my selling over chat process that is going to help you do this.
But what I want to stress here is just like you want to pay attention to body language and listening to the tone of voice over the phone, you need to figure out how to do the same thing when you’re selling over chat. The more you’ll do this, the better you’ll become, so it just takes practice.
So here’s my question to you: what if sales could feel as effortless as simple little chats in your inbox?
What if you didn’t have to deal with being really nervous to hop on a sales call, or clearing your schedule, or getting yet another no-show or a call that doesn’t go well? What if you could just have sales conversations with a bunch of people at the same time, and it could feel really really good?
I’ve put together a crash course on everything you need to know about going from selling over the phone to selling via chat. In it, I share all the things I did to go from 1-2 clients a month to 3+ clients a day. This kit includes all my sell-by-chat scripts and templates that I use to close people over the DMs.
